Individual Task - Ancillary Research Introduction

In today's lesson we have been introduced to our ancillary tasks which will be focused on creation of a digipak and an album advert for our music video production.

A digipak is a patented style of optical disc packaging, typically made form cardboard with an internal plastic holder for one or more discs,  used for the promotion of a CD single or album. It often gives extra information about the artists, record label etc. This differs from an album advert which is used as an announcement in  a public medium promoting a product, service, an event or publicizing a job vacancy.

I started off my research by looking at existing digipak's and album adverts examples in order to get an idea about the layout composition, colour scheme, included information about the artist, record labels but also song lists and use of typography. All these elements can be considered as codes and conventions of adverts as well as the digipak. I have investigated this through the analysis of two CD covers focused on different genres as well as their adverts.

Overall, the ‘Rudimental’ album significantly follows the codes and conventions of the dance music due to vibrant colour scheme but also use of natural surrounding which can be often seen within the advertisement of music genres under the umbrella of dance. This analysis significantly gave me a knowledge and taste of how my digipak and CD advert will have to include in order to attract young people.

  1. This is a very detailed analysis well done. My only worry is that you are not varying the way you present the work. You need to try and use different programmes to display your work.
